What, Where, When and How Much?
Namaqualand is an arid region in the northwestern part of South
Africa, spanning over 1,000 kilometers. Most of the Namaqua
Camino walks take you on an inland route to the Atlantic Ocean
coastline. With the exception of one, these walks are assisted slack-
pack hikes, meaning you carry only a light daypack while your tent
and Namaqua Camino bags are safely transported to the next
overnight camp. The dates have been carefully chosen for a time of
year when the weather is expected to be temperate. However, as we
all know, Mother Nature can be unpredictable, and extreme
weather—whether very hot, cold, or rainy—may occur during this
period.
Facilities at the overnight camps are basic, though we do provide hot
showers with rationed water. Bucket toilets are available both at the
camps and along the route. Water is limited to 5 liters per person
per day for personal use, but drinking water is always available at
the camps and along the daily stages. To fully enjoy the experience,
you should be as physically prepared as possible for the walks. The
better prepared you are, the more enjoyable your excursion will be!
